Bob Vielhaber and I have been friends for over 35 years and we have shared similar interests. We are both hometown boys, were swimmers, we coached, went to Maryland University and have stayed friends over the years. Bob is an avid reader and loves science fiction. I’ve always felt that he should have pursued an acting career his life has always been filled with drama and excitement. I remember those winters when he left for Florida and worked as a deep sea diver and then returned home and coached during the summer at Washington Golf and Country Club. We even got to coach together one year when I coached his diving team. Bob is one of those ‘guys’ that has a marvelous vocabulary, attracted beautiful women, and could build and fix almost anything. You might say that he is a real renaissance man, and that’s where we really differ. He and I still work hard and are both self-employed. We can go for long periods of time without communicating with one another but the second we talk or get together we take up right where we left off. I’m making a concerted effort to put put together a portrait series of my closest friends and family. On my blog I will talk about each of them in a little bit of detail. The image to the right was taken with my Hasselblad 500CM with Kodak Tri-X film and no flash fill. 90% of my photographs were taken with the Hasselblad until the advent of digital photography. I now use Nikon’s. The image to the left was taken with a Nikon D800 in available light in the studio.
